Sardinia is often described as “almost a continent” by many travelers, due to its green pastures, rolling hills and mountains, oak forests, sand dunes, and a sea that changes all shades of blue and green. We’ll begin our exploration of this fascinating island in Tresnuraghes and then cross the very center of the island through areas still untouched by tourism. From here, continue on to discover the stunning coast in Cabras with its lagoons and flamingos and explore the long sandy beaches of the Sinis peninsula. Along the way we’ll encounter old mining towns that have become ghost villages, discover the ancient Phoenician and Roman cities of Tharros and Nora, and ride along the breathtaking and winding coastal road to Pula, the perfect village to end this exciting cultural journey.
With chef Jody Adams as our host, we’ll sample the many flavors of the island and discover how its unique regional cuisine varies from mainland Italy. Here, food is sacred and is the link that connects the locals to the land – it is the element that brings village communities together. On our journey through the island we’ll discover this connection and delight our palates with some of these delicious local dishes and regional wines. Sardinia, as a region, actually produces the largest number of grapes of all Italian regions – there more than 100 different local grapes. Legend has it that the wines created in Sardinia about three thousand years ago were exported to all of the Mediterranean by the Phoenicians.

Day by Day
Day 1 - Tresnuraghes
Welcome to Sardinia! Upon arrival in Alghero, we’ll take a 1hour transfer to Tresnuraghes. Here we’ll meet for lunch and introductions followed by bike fittings and a quick warm up bike ride into the tranquil countryside. We’ll also be treated to a wine tasting at a local vineyard and meet the owner, Mr. Emilio, who creates the Malvasia, a wine that is just produced in this small area due to its unique weather. After the ride, we’ll have time to relax or take a dip in the pool at our charming hotel overlooking the sea.
Day 2 - Tresnuraghes Loop
After a breakfast featuring local products, we’ll hop on our bikes and explore the area called Meilogu where we’ll encounter some well-preserved nuraghes (Sardinian pre-historic castles), the mysterious domus de janas, and some of the older stone-carved graves. This area was believed to be the home of witches. As we ride through the tranquil pastures surrounded by flocks of cows, sheep, and horses, we’ll stop for lunch at a local agriturismo and enjoy a delightful meal with products fresh from the farm. Back at the hotel, we’ll enjoy a cheese making demonstration with real local shepherd. This evening we’ll be treated to a special dinner prepared by our host chef, Jody Adams, at Villa Asfodeli. This is one night you won’t forget!
Day 3 - Tresnuraghes to Cabras
We begin our day in Montiferru and set out in the pristine countryside where nature is interrupted only by the sound of cowbells. You will feel as though you are in a painting - feel free to stop and talk with local shepherds about their lives in this peaceful part of the world. Along the ride, we’ll stop at an olive mill to taste the local olive oil from Montiferru. We end our ride in Cabras, a beautiful village built among lagoons. Here we’ll enjoy an aperitif with the local Vernaccia wine at sunset overlooking the elegant pink flamingos.
Day 4 - Cabras Loop
On today’s ride we’ll explore the peninsula of Sinis with its long sandy beaches, cycle into the area of Vernaccia wine and then climb a gentle slope into the olives groves of Seneghe. In Cabras, visit the Contini winery, where Mr. Contini himself is keeping the delicious, citrus flavors of Vernaccia alive in Sardinia. Here we’ll also discover how bottarga (a delicacy of salted, cured fish roe) is made. En route back to the hotel, we’ll visit the once Phoenician then Roman settlement of Tharros, an ancient city that was the base for exploring the Mediterranean. Today also features another delightful highlight – an informal cooking demonstration with Jody Adams - where you can jump in and participate in the action and learn a few tips from the master chef herself!
Day 5 - Shuttle to Pula / Barumini Visit
We’ll begin the morning with a transfer to Pula. Along the way, we'll stop in Barumini to learn more about the fascinating history of Sardinia and be immersed in its ancestral culture. Upon arrival in Pula, a delightful village south of Cagliari, we’ll spend the afternoon exploring on a relaxing ride through the village, its stunning beaches, and scenic countryside. Along the ride, we’ll enjoy brief stops for a caffè, gelato, and later, an aperitif. You’ll be enchanted by the Phoenician town of Nora, situated on a beautiful peninsula surrounded by a peaceful lagoon. This evening features a delightful dinner at Fradis Minoris ristorante in Pula.
Day 6 - Pula Loop
On our final full day of riding we’ll cycle a loop around Pula. Delight in the absolute beauty of a road that caresses small golden coves and embraces landscapes spotted with solitary Spanish watch towers. Stop to visit Chia, a beach that leads into emerald green water. Then in Piazza del Popolo, Pula’s main square, enjoy an aperitivo while watching the laid back local scene. Tonight’s final dinner is another special treat – a delightful meal hosted by our guide Simone at his mother’s house, surrounded by his family. The perfect end to an exciting journey through Sardinia with Jody Adams.
Day 7 - Arrivederci
After breakfast, your guides will transfer you to the Cagliari airport (about a 40 minute drive) to continue on to your next connection.
