Day 1: Blackhead
Blackhead

We shuttle from Galway to the storied region known as the Burren where you’ll stay in the area of Ballyvaughn. Then, take a 12 mi warm up ride to Blackhead Peninsula and admire the view overlooking the ocean.

Day 2: Loop to Ballyvaughn

We cycle north into the heart of the Burren's limestone plateaus via Lisobonvanna to Ballyvaughan. Here we will take a tour of the restored Norman Newtown Castle and Ailwee Caves to discover the unique flora of this area. After lunch, we head along the coastline via Blackhead peninsula back to Doolin, the musical hub of Irish Folk. There, we catch spectacular views of Galway Bay, the Burren, the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher.

Day 3–4: Aran Islands

Ride 12 mi to Roadford and board the ferry to peaceful Aran Island, which we explore by bike and boat today and tomorrow. We first visit Inisheer, the smallest of Aran Islands and then cruise over to Inishmore.

Day 5: Clifden
Clifden

We board a ferry to Rossaveel and a pedal along the “Sky Road” to Clifden. Pass by the beaches at Dog’s Bay and Gurteen bay through Ballyconneely village. Narrow roads will take you away from the coast with some spectacular views of Bon Lehely Mountain. Once we arrive in the picturesque market town of Clifden, we will have a guided tour of the local area and visit sights of historical and archeological interest.

Day 6: Leenane

Today we cycle east to Lough Inagh and then continue to Klyemore Abbey, with its walled gardens and Gothic Castle, and the Connemara National Park, set on Ireland’s dramatic fjord. In the afternoon, we continue our ride to the town of Leenane via the “Sky Road”, where the film The Field was made.

Day 7: Galway
Galway

Cycle past the historic ruins of Ross Abbey before hopping the ferry across the Lough Corrib. This 90 minute ferry includes a guided tour of the Inshigoill Island. From there we will transfer to Galway and spend the afternoon touring this historic and lively city before our farewell feast in the evening.

Day 8: Slan Leat! (Farewell)

We have breakfast and say goodbye. Enjoy another day in Galway or take a short taxi ride to the airport to catch a flight to your next destination.

It is difficult to start with such praise of our guides. These gentlemen were superb cyclists, historians, and ambassadors. They knew the culture, the food, the grapes, the wine, the politics. I appreciated their patience with my limited language skills. Their respect and care for the participants was outstanding. Your guides are not just assets to the company - they are the company.

All Levels

You’re potentially interested in any level of trip and don't want your site experience tailored to any specific level.

Easy

You’re new to biking, or you just want to take it easy with lots of stops to take pictures and explore and no one hurrying you along. Expect a leisurely pace over generally flat terrain.

Average distance per day: 18-35 miles.

Athletic Beginner

You’re not a fanatical rider, but you exercise regularly and enjoy a leisurely day’s spin on your bike. You might want to graduate to “intermediate” one day, or not. The pace is relaxed but the terrain gently rolling, more ups and downs, more vistas and valleys than Easy tours.

Average distance per day: 35-45 miles.

Intermediate

You’re active on your days off, and recreational biking is most likely your weekend sport of choice. You love to ride and it shows in your endurance and strength. A steady but active pace, with opportunities to push yourself and some challenging climbs, with great descents over rolling terrain. (These folks ARE cyclists, they are usually pretty serious cyclists but do not train at the expert level.)

Average distance per day: 40-50 miles.

Expert

You crave vigorous pacing, challenging climbs and thrilling descents. You crave longer mileage with lots of hills and descents, varying terrain, and a mountain pass or two only makes it better.

Average distance per day: 45+ miles.

Family

If you have kids under 16, we have great options for you! With fewer hotel changes, easier biking and wheels for all ages, we've got your ideal active family holiday.

Average distance per day: 20–30 miles.
