Day 1: Monterotondo di Gavi
After a bike fitting, we take a short warm-up ride in the hills behind our lovely villa to the new “Museo dei Campionissimi” – an awesome exhibit of cycling memorabilia, pictures, and movies. Our ride for this afternoon will be approximately 12 miles.
Day 2–3: Gavi to Acqui Terme
Day 2: Today we pedal from Gavi to Acqui Terme, passing Castles of Monferrato, a hilly area where each village is protected by a castle. The vineyards of Dolcetto, Cortese, and Moscato are the landmarks of this ride.
Day 3: In the morning we ride across one of the best kept medieval villages of the area, Cassine, then discover the hypnotic geometry of Nizza hills, famous also for the Barbera wine.
Day 4–5: Alba, Barolo and the Langhe
Day 4: Drink in magnificent views of the snow-capped Alps as we cross the Alte Langhe (literally, high hills) en route to Alba, famous for its white truffles, peaches and wine production.
Day 5: Today we pedal through the vineyards of Barolo and Monforte passing by La Morra, famous for its belvedere from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Langhe area. Along the way a local truffle hunter will give us a special demonstration with his loyal dog.
Day 6: Cioccaro di Penango
Day 6: Pass through Barbaresco in the Roero region on the way to our next destination. Descent into a patchwork of vineyards and fruit farms as we head north and enter the hills of Monferrato. Arrive at our hotel for the next 2-nights and soothe our tired legs in the pool as we admire the countryside.
Day 7: Turin
Day 7: Our last day of riding heads west toward Turin, capital city of Piedmont. Along our way, the route offers a rollercoaster ride up and down the lower hills of Monferrato. The last climb brings us towards Superga, an important monument in the hearth of all the "turineis." From here a magnificent panorama of the 2006 Olympic site opens before us.
Day 8: Arrivederci!
After breakfast, around 9 AM, we will provide one shuttle to Turin train station Porta
Nuova or Porta Susa (10 min ride), where you can catch your next connections to Milan
in about 1 hour or Genova in 2 hours. To reach Torino airport you can also catch a taxi
from the hotel (35 min and 35 euros).
