Description

For a fun family vacation with pristine beaches, bike riding to discover hidden places, a variety of activities and rich cultural experiences, join us on this tour featuring the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. We’ve charted a route through territory still virtually undiscovered by the tourist crowds—yet it is rich with history and mind-boggling scenic magnificence. Along the way, experience traditions and cultures you and family won’t find anywhere else.

Sardinia (or Sardegna) boasts over 2,000 km of pristine shoreline. This diverse coastal landscape boasts dramatic cliffs diving into the turquoise sea. We pass along stretches of white, sandy beaches and miles of salmon-colored rock formations. On this tour we explore the southwestern tip of Sardinia and other islands off of its coast. Far from the tourist crowds, we cycle the wild west of Italy, relax on Mediterranean beaches and enjoy an unforgettable multi-sport experience with all members of the family.

Day 1–4: Calasetta, Sant'Antioco, San Pietro Islands and boat ride
Calasetta, Sant'Antioco, San Pietro Islands and boat ride

Day 1: Today we have a group pickup at Cagliari airport at 11:30 pm and a 1.5-hour shuttle takes us to our hotel in Calasetta where we enjoy a light lunch followed by an introduction talk. In the afternoon we enjoy also a warm-up ride, perhaps taking an optional extra loop along the coast.
Day 2: We discover and ride on Sant’Antioco, the island from which the Phoenicians once dominated the Mediterranean. Enjoy views of beautiful beaches and a turquoise sea during your spin around the island.
Day 3: We take a 45-minute ferry out to San Pietro Island—and enter a whole new world. This island was settled by Genoan fishermen 300 years ago and is still famous for its red tuna.
Day 4: Enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean Sea on a private boat ride along the pristine stretch of the Southwest of Sardinia coast. Here we are in one of the wildest sections of nature found on Sardinia.

Day 5–6: Pula and multi-sport activity day

Day 5: The Spanish influence on Sardinia is evident in the lonely Spanish towers we’ll see on our ride along the island’s most beautiful coastline. Admire dramatic cliffs and small coves where cows and goats wander.
Day 6: Today is at leisure in Pula. Explore the Roman and Phoenician ruins in the ancient city of Nora. You can also simply enjoy the local shops and restaurants, relax by the beach or canoe in the lagoon of Nora, before our last dinner together where we can celebrate our fabulous tour in our Sardinian paradise.

Day 7: Arrivederci!

Stay to enjoy the white sand dune beaches of Pula or take our 45-minute shuttle to Cagliari airport, around 9:00 am, where you can catch a flight for your next connection.

To change your default trip level please select a new level from the list below.

All Levels

You’re potentially interested in any level of trip and don't want your site experience tailored to any specific level.

Easy

You’re new to biking, or you just want to take it easy with lots of stops to take pictures and explore and no one hurrying you along. Expect a leisurely pace over generally flat terrain.

Average distance per day: 18-35 miles.

Moderate

You’re not a fanatical rider, but you exercise regularly and enjoy a leisurely day’s spin on your bike. You might want to graduate to “intermediate” one day, or not. The pace is relaxed but the terrain gently rolling, more ups and downs, more vistas and valleys than Easy tours.

Average distance per day: 35-45 miles.

Intermediate

You’re active on your days off, and recreational biking is most likely your weekend sport of choice. You love to ride and it shows in your endurance and strength. A steady but active pace, with opportunities to push yourself and some challenging climbs, with great descents over rolling terrain. (These folks ARE cyclists, they are usually pretty serious cyclists but do not train at the expert level.)

Average distance per day: 40-50 miles.

Expert

You crave vigorous pacing, challenging climbs and thrilling descents. You crave longer mileage with lots of hills and descents, varying terrain, and a mountain pass or two only makes it better.

Average distance per day: 45+ miles.

Family

If you have kids under 16, we have great options for you! With fewer hotel changes, easier biking and wheels for all ages, we've got your ideal active family holiday.

Average distance per day: 20–30 miles.
